My mom gave me a book by Elisabeth Elliot, that I was reading on my flight to Portland this morning. It was hard to put down to be honest. After seeing the verse in the forward, I knew it was going to be a good read. And though I’m only halfway through it right now, I would readily recommend that you pick up a copy of, The Mark of a Man especially if you are a man. It takes on the unpopular topic of manhood, and what it means to be a man. But back to the verse, the one that caught my eye.
Live life then with a due sense of responsibility, not as men who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do. Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days. Don’t be vague but firmly grasp the will of the Lord.
This verse embodies exactly what I know that I need to do. I am all about living a full life. But with that comes responsibility. The moments and memories need to be worth remembering, not something you want to forget or are ashamed of.
Today I begin a part of that journey. As a photographer I am continually trying to hone my craft so that I can take the best images possible. I want, no I need to be responsible in all things photography included. My goal is to be a professional in my art. Not just someone who makes money from taking photographs, but someone who can capture a moment the way it should be remembered. I do not do this to bring glory to myself, but to convey the wondrous creation all about us. To my eyes, living life is the will of the Lord.
I am so excited that I could come to Portland for IPS’s prize winning photography II. I expect to be challenged and enabled so that at the end of the day I can be that much better. I’m ready to purse my goal.
